Department Activities and Organisational setup
Activities of the Department can be broadly classified into the following groups.
1. Administration
2. Extension and Advisory Service.
3. Trials and Demonstrations.
4. Training and Farmers Education.
5. Crop Development.
6. Crop protection
7.Input supply planning (Seeds, Manures, Fertilisers and P.P.Chemicals, Agricultural Machinery.
8. Soil and Water Conservation and Watershed Development.
9. Command Area Development.
10. Farm Information Service.
11. Regulatory functions (Implementation of various acts).
12. Implementation of Social Welfare Programmes.
13. Soil Testing.
Organisational Setup:
Charts showing organisational setup at State, District, Divisional and Taluka levels are enclosed. Earlier Soil Conservation and Crop Husbandry wings were functioning separately. In 1995, the Department was re-organised and Soil Conservation and Crop Husbandry wings were merged. Subsequently, district level offices of the Joint Director of Agriculture were setup in 17 districts and in the remaining 10 districts offices of Deputy Directors of Agriculture were setup. At division level 28 offices of the Divisional Deputy Directors of Agriculture and at taluka level offices of Assistant Directors of Agriculture are functioning in all 175 taluks. At range level, offices of Assistant Agricultural Officers were setup to give better services to farmers. Details are furnished in organisation chart and Table-14.
Altogether, the staff strength of the Department is 11954. Details are furnished below:
